Such an honor to be in time’s presence…

My loved one,

I am celebrating! You may not believe it, but I have been a witness to yet another journey of 365 days. I’ve seen the peaks, the valleys, the joys, the quiet, the full mosaic of your life to turn around the sun one more time. I am celebrating you! One more year has come to a close and has been added to the book of your life. Time for a new chapter — Happy Birthday! 

Let’s pause together for just a second…

Hasn’t this year been the most exceptional? In some unexpected ways you found yourself make the best out of it. When it rained on the beach, when Mondays came too soon, when the weekends weren’t long enough to finish your favorite book, and so many other things you’d rather I not mention… No matter what happened, I’ve watched you look for joy.

Today you feel no need for special gifts. You now know the many gifts that make your days special, you know where to look, and you find them whenever you want to. All you need to do is to look for joy, whenever you want to. How did this happen? And how wonderful that it has, and I have a chance to celebrate this with you! 

My birthday wish for you is to hold onto this joy and contentment, so that you feel at peace and at ease with what is, and that you do have the time, and that you feel enough and are plenty.

I know that time is rarely perceived as a comforting idea and, with every new birthday that arrives on the calendar, it can feel more and more unwelcome. That is understandable and that is the experience for those who grow older. And yet, it is such an honor to be in time’s presence when we know that we also grow so much wiser.

You certainly have. 

Birthdays have the gift of reminding us of something really important — that there are things that truly matter. It’s like some impalpable quality gets recovered and claimed, when simple beauty around us is noted and when time is given to the admiration of life’s fleeting moments.

I’ll say this again, even though today especially, I know you already know this — everything you need, you have within you.
