Dear one,
As soon as you learn to celebrate each moment, every day becomes special. Each in their own way, you will learn to appreciate them. And until that is true, you will tend to look to the “special days” — as the calendar defines them — to make you feel something different. Holidays, birthdays, vacations… Whatever they are, what is it that makes them special? Say, the New Year’s Eve is that kind of day — truly to be celebrated — even into our multiple decades, what is this day all about? Why can’t that feeling be already here?
So where are you in your journey of many years?
Still renouncing the passions, making resolutions, and seeking the authentic self? I wonder if it’s not about noticing those little things that change the direction of our days, rather than the the big pronouncements at parties. Or, why not, maybe it is — how you say — all about collecting the experiences that these few special days offer, one at a time, with the sole purpose of capturing them to be later transformed into memories. And if, by some magic, you do manage to remember those few special moments years after they happened and exactly when you need them — then it seems that it would be just fine forgetting all the rest.
Of course, if you were to ask me, whether the New Year’s Eve has some special importance, I would say — probably yes. It is one of those days (though not the only one in the year) when your Past Self meets your Future Self, a moment intentionally arranged by the Present. And just for a brief moment, you can have both — the coming and the going, what was and what can be. Those moments of transition would be the moments worth capturing. Yet there is barely any time to attend to their brief conversation because someone’s too busy scheduling parties.
You know those guests that sneak out before it is truly time? That’s the Past Self, so keenly aware of not wanting to stay beyond its welcome…
I hope the holiday left enough room for you and that the day has gifted you moments to treasure. Maybe these will become memories you later recall precisely when everything else is forgotten. Perhaps then you will share with me your step-by-step guide to a perfect celebration.
Wishing you a multitude of joys.
And for everything you need — to look within,
~Anima
